I believe the characteristics that make up an artist are his or her ability to elevate aesthetic experience and appreciation by using a variety of tools, techniques and materials to communicate the uniqueness of a condition or the majesty found within nature to the viewer. I believe it is the role of the artist to take whatever tools and materials necessary and use them to create an outcome that transcends all other forms of communication. This is what makes art...art.
I create my stone sculpture, in some instances, as part of a series of works. The work is often conceptual but not abstract; or it can be thematic and relational within the series. The Peace series incorporates the hand with its extremely expressive and unlimited capacity to convey human thought and emotion. The dove has traditionally served as a symbol of peace throughout man’s history and cultural development. Together the hand and the dove hold tremendous strength in communicating peace and our continuous search for it. It is the intent and hope that my sculptures provide inspiration and an elevated level of aesthetic appreciation that reinforces the viewer’s concepts which have also been embodied within the work.
